Sessions & my Approach

I am a person centred psychotherapist in training which means I do not direct. No matter how much training / qualifications I receive, I truly believe I am not the expert of you. I will support you, be with you and alongside you with whatever you would like to explore.

Person Centred therapy views individuals as inherently “good” and presumes that difficult conditions force us to develop “pathological” behaviours in order to cope. We aim to understand the client from his or her point of view, ensuring the client feels accepted and at ease is highly emphasised. We focus on the conscious ways that people perceive themselves as opposed to the therapist’s interpretation of their unconscious ideas and thoughts. We aim to help individuals get in touch with inner values and sense of self-worth.

What Does Person-Centred Psychotherapy Entail?

  • Unconditional positive regard - accepting the client where and how they are

  • Congruence - the ability of the therapist to relate to the client by dropping the professional facade and being human

  • Empathy - the ability to recognize and respond to emotions expressed by the client

Listening is a crucial part of client-centered therapy. With this approach, clients who have sought therapy before are often surprised and maybe even be a bit put off by the fact that the therapist does not ask questions unless they're seeking clarification or mirroring what the client has stated.

The client-centered therapist doesn't instruct or suggest either. Instead, the client-centered therapist believes that the power of therapy stems from the client forming their own insights and making their own decisions based on those insights. With this in mind, the goal of client-centered therapy might remind you of the old adage about teaching someone to fish instead of giving them fish.

What's the format of the session?

Sessions last 50 minutes and we offer weekly therapy. We can, on occasion, offer more frequent sessions should the client need more holding throughout the week and we can also offer double sessions should you wish.

In terms of fees, we offer a sliding scale depending on your affordability.
